Apr 27, 2023 · 10w40 oil is an oil weight, or viscosity, that is designed for use in high-performance cars. It is thicker than 5w30 oil at low temperatures, meaning it will flow more slowly. However, at high temperatures it becomes thinner than 5w30 oil, providing better protection for the engine under heavy loads.
Jun 21, 2016 · There really is no way to know for sure. There is no one size fits all viscosity. Most engines can run on anything from a 0w20 to a 15w50 technically. I would go for a 5w30. You'll find most 20 grades have a HT/HS of 2.6-2.75; Most 5w30's are around 3.0-3.1. bbhero
Sep 26, 2022 · Companies like Mercedes-Benzs and Porsche use this oil for high performance. Q: Can I use 0W40 instead of 5W40? Ans: Yes. Because of having the same viscosity in operating temperature, they won’t make a difference at all. However, 0W-40 will perform better and will be more beneficial in cold weather. Q: Can you mix 0W40 with 10W40? Ans: Yes
Jul 11, 2014 · 686 posts · Joined 2013. #8 · Jul 11, 2014. I've been running 5w-30 in my '09 V6 coupe for a couple years now, NO problems and the engine has felt GREAT the entire time. It can not possibly harm your engine, only help especially during summer since it will be more effective at higher temperatures. Little Snowflake.
Most vehicles use multigrade SAE engine oils like 5W30 and 5W40 motor oil. Older vehicles tend to use 10W40, while newer fuel-efficient engines use 0W30 or in the case of hybrid cars 0W20 motor oil! However, we recommend getting your car examined or consulting a car expert to know about the engine oil that your vehicle uses.
Dec 28, 2011 · At worst, you'll notice a tiny decrease in mileage. You can also use 5w20. As long as it's synthetic, it will last for the normal OCI. I think the only reason Toyota/Lexus recommend a 0w oil is to guarantee you use synthetic. Unless you're in the Arctic, your engine really can't tell the difference between 0 and 5.
Sep 14, 2021 · A common question is whether it’s safe to use 10W-30 instead of 5W-30 oil, for example. While it’s best to use what’s recommended in your owner’s manual, inadvertently using a viscosity one grade higher or lower than what’s recommended generally poses no long-term harm. Let’s look at two examples to illustrate.

For Toyota Corolla models made in 2009 or later, Toyota recommends using 0W-20 synthetic motor oil. Meanwhile, Corolla models made in 2008 or earlier should use 5W-30 synthetic motor oil. While any 0W-20 or 5W-30 synthetic oil should do the trick, Toyota offers its own synthetic oils with special additives to enhance your performance on Atlanta
Dec 8, 2021 · The most common recommended motor oil for all Subaru engines is 0w20 and 5w30. The 15w50 motor oil and 15w40 motor oil are not included in the recommended list, but you can use them if you want to, but they might not be suitable. You can use 15W-50 for high-performance engines. In addition, the 1540 motor oil can be used in gasoline engines.
200k, its fine to go a little thicker, can help extend the engine life. 5w20 is thinner to increase fuel economy. 5w30 is better for the engine lubrication of high heat and wear. The owners manual likely has a chart with 0w20/5w20/5w30 usage per climate you operate the engine at.

The 0 or 5 or 10 in front of the oil is for the cold. 0W30 and 15W30 are just about the same in hot weather. Your engine will never know the difference unless your in very cold weather where a 0W makes sense.
The ans is Yes, you can you 5w30 instead of 0w20. You won’t find any massive differences, but in extreme colder weather conditions, you will find a performance drop by using 5w30. Also, It depends on the Variable Valve Timing (VVT). If your car engine has VVT, It’s recommended to don’t change the weight and stick with the manufacturers
Apr 8, 2021 · I wouldn't use 5w20,0w20,0w16,5w30,0w30, 5w40, and 0w40. The ones i wouldn't use is through testing each one using briggs engines with very high rpms adjusted on my pressure washer and push mower, the 5w20 after 20 minutes started burning like CRAZY, the 0w20 started burning at startup and created blue smoke you can see everywhere, 0w16 fouled

Jan 30, 2022 · By the way, synthetic 0w20 can withstand the heat. The engine won't get hotter because youre running 0w20, so your oil temp will still be absolutely normal even when using 0w20. If you have a daily driver car that uses 5w20, 5w30, 10w30 or 5w40, you can switch to 0w20 or 0w30. Your engine will not hate you for that.

Nov 5, 2022 · When the engine is running and hot, 5w40 and 10w40 have high viscosities and are equally effective in protecting against engine wear. What happens if I use 5w 40 instead of 5w 30? You should never use 5W20 motor oil in an engine that is supposed to use 5W30. Doing so can lead to extreme damage to your engine over time.
Jan 28, 2020 · Using synthetic 5W-40 instead of conventional 10W-40 in your turbo diesel engine can significantly improve cold-starting without sacrificing protection while towing and hauling. Synthetic oil doesn’t contain any wax, so it doesn’t thicken up as much as conventional oil in the cold.

May 21, 2012 · That seems like an odd recommendation.. 5W-40 may flow a bit better than 10W-30 in freezing temperatures, but at 40C their kinematic viscosity is close. In fact, I bet a lot of 5W-40 are thicker than most 10W-30 at 40C or hotter. What's strange is that 5W40 is recommended instead of 5W30 or 0W30. This must be some kind of an old car and manual.
